3D Art Fundamentals @ Temasek Polytechnic

This module is a core component of Design Integrated Studies where students get to explore 3D Art-making with use of various materials such as clay, paper, wire and mixed media.










































At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Articulate their 3D work using art elements and basic design principles.
- Evaluate and make aesthetic judgement of 3D art.
- Apply thinking skills, creativity and art-making techniques onto their 3D work.

Mural Painting @ Park View Primary School
























This mural is created as part of Artist-in-school programme with Park View Primary School in collaboration with the pupils. It is conceptualized to commemorate its position of Center of Excellence For Sports in the East Zone. Hence, its theme on sports and celebrative Pop colours with dynamic flows and radiating swirls. It is strategically situated in front of its main parade square depicting the school’s main sports like soccer, netball, volleyball and hockey.

Lau Sheow Tong
Chief Trainer (Composite Art & Design)

Sheow Tong is an experienced Art and Design trainer with an extensive track record in his field of expertise. He has taught Art and Design in both primary and secondary schools and he is currently lecturing part-time at Temasek Polytechnic (Design Integrated Studies) and First Media Design School on various design modules.

He has established Composite Art & Design which runs various courses on Art & Design for both students and teachers. Trigger Creations is its series of Art educational programmes targeted for MOE schools as endorsed by National Arts Council (NAC).
As a teachers’ trainer with World Prime Arts Education, he has conducted various Art workshops specially tailored for teachers from MOE such as Art Interpretation for Study of Visual Arts, Fashion Illustration and Mixed Media Painting.

He holds a Master in Fine Arts from LaSalle College of the Arts (validated by Open University, UK), a Post-graduate Diploma in Education from National Institute of Education and a Bachelor in Arts from National University of Singapore.

Lim Jit Hwang is the founder and design consultant of Silverlining Bridal Couture which is established in 2002. It is a fine bridal consultancy firm which specialises in made-to-measure dresses and suits for to-be-wed clients. Currently, he is also lecturing part-time at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts on Design Communication Studies. Prior to this, he was a full-time lecturer with its design department.

He graduated with a degree in Visual Arts and Communications from Curtin University of Technology.

Phang Yi Ling Candice is currently a designer/trainer with Composite Art & Design specialising in teaching programmes on experimental design, graphic design and visual communication studies. She is also a freelance designer having done turn-key design projects for various companies such as Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and Metafusion Pte Ltd. She graduated with a Bachelor in Arts (Architecture) from the National University of Singapore and she is currently pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, with First Media Design School.

Life Drawing @ Fort Canning

A Learning Journey on Life Drawing








This workshop takes students to a learning journey on Life Drawing at Fort Canning Park.
It is specially designed for adults who have a keen interest in on-the-spot sketching and drawing of nature, scenery and architecture.

It is also a Heritage-cum-Art camp where students will be guided to a trail of Fort Canning Park with introduction of its history and culture amid the interesting architecture and lavish greenery.

In this workshop, students will be informed of basic perspective drawing and composition techniques in composing interesting outdoor life drawing pictures. Media used will be dry materials which are quick-and-easy for outdoor sketching such as pencils, charcoal and colour pencils.

There are 4 sessions (4 x 3hrs) to this workshop:
- Introduction & Mastery of Dry Media (Pencils/Charcoal/Colour Pencils)
- Introductory Trail and Basic Sketching at Fort Canning Park
- Perspective Drawing & Composition of Pictures
- Life Drawing of Composed Pictures at Fort Canning Park

'Paper' Art Workshops

'Paper' Art





‘Paper’ Art introduces pupils to artworks (both 2D & 3D) that are made of paper.
They will be experiencing creation of ‘paper’ Artwork mainly in Collage and simple Paper Sculpture.
Elements of Art (EOA) are emphasized in this programme:
Specifically Shapes, Colours and Texture.

Pupils will start on their Art making with application of EOA in mind, specifically Shapes, Colours and Texture. They will start with elementary Art-form on Collage utilizing idea of Shapes and Colours. Texture will be explored at the next level with experimentation of simple Paper Sculpture.

As a highlight to the programme, pupils will experience group-work utilizing both Collage and Paper Sculpture to create their final work with given themes.
In evaluation stage, they will discuss and ‘talk about’ their creations (both individual and group-work) using Shapes, Colours and Texture with appropriate descriptive terms for each component.

*Suitable for Pri/Lower Sec
*10 hrs for 5 sessions.
*All materials provided inclusive of notes.
* Timing, schedule and sessions could be further adjusted and appropriated flexibly within the 10 hrs proposed.
* All lessons will be presented in ‘powerpoint’ with sample-work, clear instructions and step-by-step demonstration from trainer.


Local Artists & Art Styles






This series of lessons will expose students to Local Artists and Art Styles.
The selected artists are:
Liu Kang and Georgette Chen (Nanyang Art Style)
Thomas Yeo and Goh Beng Kwan (Abstract Expressionism)
Justin Lee and Lau Sheow Tong (Pop/Naive Art)

They will be introduced to interpretation and evaluation of their work according to the 4 stages: Description; Analysis; Interpretation; Evaluation.
Hands-on with reference to their respective Art styles will be experienced with feasible materials used (Collage, Mixed Media, Digital Art) and relevant themes selected.
Finally in stage of evaluation, students will express their opinions and evaluate their learnings on the different Art Styles.
They will compare and contrast these styles with reference to their hands-on.

*2 hrs for each session.

Pop Art - A Contemporary Creation






There are 4 sessions to Pop Art – A Contemporary Creation. Students will be exposed to the contextual background, style and characteristics of Pop Art. Both international and local Pop Art contexts will be covered. They will also experience the making of Pop Art with use of appropriate media and references to artists’ work.

Students will be briefly introduced to the origin, movement and style of Pop Art.
Artists highlighted are:
Andy Warhol,
Takashi Murakami
Justin Lee
Lau Sheow Tong
Their work will be discussed and compared.

Students will produce Pop Artwork with reference to artists’ style and work. Media explored and used will be Collage or digital illustration using Photoshop as appropriate.

Students will be led to compare and contrast their work with those from the artists introduced. They will also explore possibilities of group-work such as collaging their work with noted theme and appropriate settings.

*8 hrs for 4 sessions.

Mixed Media Painting





In Mixed Media Painting, students will be taught on the collaborative use of different media like dye, acrylic, Collage and scrap-materials.
It taps on the nature of each medium and the creative inputs of students in forming the Mixed Media Painting.

Demonstration and hands-on will be experienced with ‘mixing’ of media and basic composition of picture. Accidental effects will also be realized with students’ experimentation of the media and their various effects.

Elements of Art and Principles of Design will be infused in the lessons to enable a composed Mixed Media Painting which is abstract or semi-abstract.
